St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and Angels of Animals, Inc. welcomes the community and their pets to its annual Blessing of the Animals on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 2 PM.  The Rev. Peter De Franco, Jr. Rector of the church will lead the service consisting of songs, readings, a brief talk and the blessing of each animal with their owner.  All creatures (including stuffed animals) are invited to attend.  Participants must be on a leash or in carriers and fully controlled and monitored by their human escorts.

Now a church tradition, St. Peter’s has hosted cats, dogs, birds, fish, ferrets, rabbits and more exotic animals as snakes, spiders, iguanas and lizards.  If a pet can not come to the church, a photo of the pet can be brought for a blessing.  “St. Francis” will also make an appearance for those wishing to have pictures taken with him and their pets. The participants may also take photos of their pets at the shrine of St. Francis located in the front of the church.

Immediately following the ceremony, Angels of Animals, Inc, a Clifton based animal rescue dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of injured, abused or medically challenged homeless animals will host refreshments and seasonal treats whereby all donations received will directly benefit the animals.

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church has a St. Francis Memorial Garden.  The Cremains of pets can be interred in the Garden.  A donation is requested from the pet owner for the care of the garden.    For more information on the blessing or the St. Francis Memorial Garden, contact the church Tuesday to Friday from 10AM to 4 PM  at 973 546-5020.  The church is located at 380 Clifton Avenue in Clifton.  Parking is available a block away from the church in the Municipal Parking Lot on the corner of Clifton Avenue and First Street.
